The Society for Epidemiologic Research will accept proposals for symposium sessions at the 53rd Annual Meeting in Boston, MA, June 16-19, 2020. Symposium sessions are among the highlights of every meeting, offering members an opportunity to directly shape the program. All members of SER are encouraged to consider submitting a symposium proposal.

We hope to receive symposium proposals reflecting the range of substantive and methodologic expertise of our members.  We encourage the submission of symposium proposals that include presenters from a diverse range of institutions, areas of expertise, and socio-demographic backgrounds, including gender, sexual orientation, race/ethnicity and socio-economic status.

Typically, symposia are focused on innovative, emerging, or controversial topics. Successful symposia offer varying perspectives on the topic, with 3-5 speakers. We also encourage nontraditional formats, such as a point-counterpoint theme or a different way to engage attendees in the discussion. Depending upon the final program, ten to twelve symposia are planned, though this number may change depending on logistical considerations. The Society is often able to provide symposia organizers a small travel stipend to offset expenses of those who are not members of the Society and wouldn’t normally be attending the conference.

Symposia proposals should be submitted using the online form. In preparing your proposal, please succinctly discuss the topic and why it would be of interest to the membership, the content to be presented or debated, suggested speakers and their expressed willingness to attend, and estimated allocation of time. Please make sure to provide enough detail about the content of the symposium for reviewers to be able to evaluate its significance, innovation and approach. You can expect a decision by November 1, 2019.
