Dr. Irene Yen, MPH, PhD, is Professor in the UC Merced School of Social Sciences, Humanities, and Arts’ (SSHA) Department of Public Health since January 2018. She is a social epidemiologist. Her research focuses on the social determinants of health with emphases on how neighborhood environment influences health behaviors and health status and the intersections of race/ethnicity and social class. She currently oversees the Housing, Opportunity, and Place team which is working on a few projects including housing justice research activities in Fresno and Merced and an education and health project. She is also the co-director for the training core of UC Merced’s Nicotine & Cannabis Policy Center.
