I am currently pursuing a PhD in Epidemiology at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. I hold an MPH in Epidemiology from Columbia University and a BA in Public Health Studies from the Johns Hopkins University. My research interests are currently in HIV and lifecourse epidemiology and my dissertation focuses on the timing of antiretroviral treatment initiation and outcomes in perinatally HIV-infected infants and young children. I am passionate about teaching introductory epidemiological methods. You can follow me on Twitter @stephshiau!
If elected as Media Chair, I would work to encourage social media conversation amongst Student and Post-Doc members of SER. My hope is that we can use social media tools to increase the exchange of epidemiologic ideas and networking opportunities outside of the annual SER conference. The development of a listserv of Student and Post-Doc members with Twitter handles and LinkedIn profiles would help facilitate this conversation. As the Media Chair, I would also represent SER-SPC on the SER Communications Committee and oversee material presented on the SPC webpage. It would be an honor to represent the Student and Post-Doc members of SER on the committee.
