RESEARCH AREA: The role of pregnancy complications in coronary artery disease development
RESEARCH GROUP AND PROJECT: In the Perinatal and Cardiovascular Epidemiology (PACE) research group we work cross-disciplinary to improve our understanding of pregnancy complications, particularly preeclampsia, and cardio-vascular disease. The research group is led by Simon Timpka (Associate Professor in Clinical Epidemiology, previously epi postdoc in the US for two years) and consists of >10 members, including a full-time senior PhD statistician and both clinical and full-time postdocs. Our projects typically leverage large sets of either registry-based, biomarker, genetic and/or imaging data. This project aims to investigate how a history of certain pregnancy complications leads to coronary artery disease development in women. Women with certain pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia develop hypertension and coronary artery disease at an earlier age compared to women not affected by these complications. However, the etiology behind this process is unclear.
TRAINING: This position offers an opportunity of hands-on training to further learn relevant statistical methods and how to handle large sets of clinical and imaging data, as well as bioinformatics training on genetic data. The scholarship recipient will under supervision gain training and experience in:
• Handling and analyzing large datasets of genetic and coronary imaging data.
• Apply relevant statistical techniques to analyze registry-ascertained health outcomes in women
• Execute statistical analyses relevant to genome-wide association studies (GWAS)
• Collaborating on research projects with international experts.
QUALIFICATIONS: To be eligible for a postdoc scholarship at Lund University the recipient must hold a PhD degree within a relevant field, such as public health, epidemiology or clinical medicine.
– The PhD degree must not be older than three years.
– The applicant must not have been employed at Lund University in the past two years.
– Documented experience of handling and analyzing large datasets in relevant areas such as cardiovascular epidemiology, genetic epidemiology, or cardiac imaging.
– Expert user of at least one widely used statistical software (e.g. SAS, Stata, R).
– Proficient in English (oral and written).
– Interest in women’s health
– Previous experience of collaborating on international research projects is an advantage.
LIVING IN SWEDEN AND MALMÖ: Malmö (365,000 inhabitants) is situated by to coast on the inlet to the Baltic Sea in southernmost Sweden. The city has a strong culture and restaurant scene, a large community of foreign-born professionals, and is highly bikeable. Direct flights to the US via Copenhagen Airport, only 20 min away by train. Cost of living is roughly equal to Omaha, NE, and Lexington, KY.
