Postdoctoral fellowship – causal inference and cancer epidemiology

Description

The Department of Breast Surgical Oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC) invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral fellowship focused on the development and application of methods for estimating the causal effects of longitudinal treatment strategies in breast cancer care. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage with complex real-world data and modern causal inference methodology to inform clinical decision-making in oncology. A main focus of current projects is the comparative effectiveness of various adherence strategies on oncologic outcomes in patients treated with endocrine therapy. The fellow will have opportunities to contribute to ongoing lines of research, continue to pursue their pre-existing research interests in breast oncology, and to develop their own research program. Candidates may have a deeper interest in methods development, applications to cancer epidemiology, or both. In applications, they will work with large-scale observational electronic health record data, cancer registry data, local electronic health record and departmental data, and conduct secondary analyses of randomized clinical trial data.

The fellow will be a part of the MDACC postdoctoral association to support, promote, and enhance the postdoctoral experience by providing first-class training, programs, and events for professional growth. The fellow will also engage with other mentors and events in related departments including Breast Medical Oncology, Breast Radiation Oncology, Health Services Research, Biostatistics, and at the Institute for Data Science in Oncology. Through this network of collaboration, they will interface with leading methodologic experts in statistics and data science, and will work closely with clinician-researchers on emerging topics in clinical oncology at one of the world’s leading cancer centers.

The position offers up to two years of postdoctoral fellowship with competitive compensation and potential for renewal based on performance and availability of funds. Funds will also be available for travel to present research and network with other researchers in the field.

Candidates must have completed a PhD or ScD in epidemiology, biostatistics, data science, or a closely related field and have no more than five years of relevant research experience since receipt of their most recent doctoral degree. Candidates must have expertise or a strong interest in developing expertise in causal inference methodology and cancer epidemiology. Strong statistical and programming skills, with a proficiency in R (preferred), SAS, or python are required.

To apply, please submit the following:

1. A brief cover letter detailing your research interests, qualifications, and career goals.
2. Curriculum Vitae.
3. Two letters of reference.
4. Three writing samples, publications, or working papers.

Email applications to Kerollos Wanis, KWanis@mdanderson.org, with the subject line: Last name, First name, Postdoctoral Fellowship Application. Questions or pre-application inquiries are welcome. The position is available for immediate hire, and applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
