Faculty Scientist

Description

The MaineHealth Institute for Research (MHIR), established in 1991, has experienced remarkable growth, driven by successful grant funding and the recruitment of world-class scientists. The institute’s full service scientific facilities foster cutting-edge research with a particular focus on basic, translational science and population health. As a part of MaineHealth, the state’s largest integrated healthcare system, MHIR collaborates with the network of nine hospitals to enable a seamless connection between scientific discoveries and their real-world application in patient care and community engagement. MHIR has state of the art resources to support basic, translational and clinical research. These include, but are not limited to, twelve scientific cores, an AAALAC accredited rodent facility, data analytics, and grant and clinical research support. MHIR has a diverse multi-disciplinary pool of scientists including basic scientists, physician-investigators, epidemiologists, health services researchers, behavioral and social scientists, biostatisticians, and methodological (quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods) specialists. Our partnership with Tufts University School of Medicine offers appointments for MHIR faculty, and we have ongoing collaborations with the University of New England, University of Southern Maine, University of Maine, University of Vermont, the Jackson Laboratory and Northeastern University/Roux Institute. Please visit our website to learn more.

MHIR is strategically expanding to enhance its success in biomedical and health research. We are fostering stronger partnerships between research and clinical care, while growing our portfolio across basic science, translational research, health services, implementation science, clinical research, and population health outcomes. To support this expansion, we are actively seeking faculty candidates at various levels—Faculty Scientist I (Assistant Professor), Faculty Scientist II (Associate Professor), and Faculty Scientist III (Professor). Advanced degrees (MD, DO, PhD) are required for these positions which are expected to be filled over the next 6-18 months. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all positions are filled.

We are seeking expansion along a spectrum of research, but not limited to these areas of focus:

o Metabolic health and disease
o Rural health access and delivery, health disparities, community healthcare delivery
o Cardiovascular disease
o Social and environmental drivers of health
o Implementation science
o Cancer control, behavioral and psychosocial oncology, survivorship and quality of life, quality of care/ health services research
o Autism spectrum disorder, associated sleep disorders, and therapeutic mindfulness interventions
o Genomics, clinical neuroscience and neurology, aging, neurodegenerative diseases, and neurodevelopmental disorders
o Infectious diseases, anti-microbial resistance, emerging pathogens and vector-borne diseases

Faculty Scientist I: should have post-doctoral experience relevant for their area of study. Criteria for evaluation include research productivity, peer reviewed scientific publications, and potential/early evidence for independent research funding.

Faculty Scientist II: should have obtained independent research funding and demonstrated a track record of peer reviewed publications and recognition in their field. Experience with teaching and mentorship of interns, students, trainees, and junior faculty is required. Contributions to the research community through service, education, and leadership are highly desired.

Faculty Scientist III: should have an established track record of research funding and national recognition in their field. They must have a consistent and active record of peer-reviewed publications and demonstrated experience and interest in mentoring early-career faculty and trainees. A well-rounded education/teaching portfolio is a plus. Successful candidates will also demonstrate excellent management skills, leadership, and mentorship, participating in institutional and national scientific service. Senior faculty recruits with expertise in clinical and translational science, as well as administrative leadership experience, have an opportunity to be considered for a leadership position at MHIR.

The MaineHealth application and a resume or CV are required elements for application to these positions. In addition, please submit a one-page statement of research that summarizes ongoing research, future projects and overall scientific vision. For final candidates, three letters of support will be requested.
