Post-Doctoral Training Opportunity in Data Science, Epidemiology, Disability, and Rehabilitation Research at the University of Alabama at Birmingham
The National Spinal Cord Injury Statistical Center within Heersink School of Medicine’s Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking a highly motivated Post-Doctoral Research Fellow to join a dynamic team dedicated to advancing rehabilitation care and outcomes for people with spinal cord injury (SCI) and other physical disabilities. The successful candidate will learn and apply information technology, statistical methodology, and big data analytics to manage and analyze data from the world-largest SCI Model Systems (SCIMS) Database for research and implementation. There are opportunities to link the SCIMS Database to other administrative and research data sets around the world for integrative data analysis and comparable research. Possible areas of research include SCI epidemiological trends since the 1970s, health services and outcomes, clinical prediction rules, as well as social determinants of health. Funding is available for two years, with the possibility for extended funding.
Key responsibilities:
• Conduct independent research using data from the SCIMS Database and other large data sets.
• Support the design, planning, statistical analysis, and interpretation of studies using data
from the SCIMS Database.
• Author and co-author scholarly articles, reports, and research papers for publication in
top-tier journals.
• Present research findings at national and international conferences, seminars, and
stakeholder meetings.

Qualifications:
• Strong background on study design and statistical methodology
• Proficiency in SAS, SPSS, R, or similar statistical software packages
• Strong communication and writing skills
• Experience with managing large datasets or secondary data analysis for research is preferred
