Postdoctoral Fellowship: Stanford University Center for Preventing Inequities in Hemorrhage-related Severe Maternal morbidity (PRIHSM)
Description
We are seeking an individual to contribute to PRIHSM’s research as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Stanford University under the supervision of mentors identified from Center Co-Investigators. PRIHSM is a part of the NIH Implementing a Maternal health and Pregnancy Outcomes Vision for Everyone (IMPROVE) initiative as one of ten NIH Maternal Health Research Centers of Excellence. The program resides within the Dunlevie Maternal Fetal-Medicine Center for Discovery, Innovation, and Clinical Impact at Stanford University. The goal of PRIHSM is to reduce the occurrence and severity of postpartum hemorrhage, which is one of the most common causes of maternal mortality. Our focus is on reducing maternal anemia, and reducing cesarean births among those with low-risk deliveries, which are two of the leading precursors to postpartum hemorrhage and severe maternal morbidity related to hemorrhage.
PRIHSM also serves as a hub for training the next generation of maternal health researchers; leads a variety of activities to ensure our research is community-engaged and translated to action; and involves collaboration with an extensive network of community, academic, and state partners. This postdoctoral fellowship is designed for an individual who has training in quantitative or qualitative health research (e.g., PhD, ScD, DrPH, or clinician scientist with a research doctorate). The fellow will have the opportunity to collaborate with a variety of clinician-scientists, epidemiologists, biostatisticians, and social scientists and community partners at Stanford University as well as at other institutions. The position will be located at the Stanford School of Medicine. The Postdoctoral Fellow will have opportunities to be involved with other groups at Stanford University such as the California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative (CMQCC), the California Perinatal Quality Care Collaborative (CPQCC), and the Center for Population Health Sciences.
Funding Details
This fellowship is a one-year appointment, with the option to extend by mutual arrangement. Funding includes a starting salary of at least $71,650, funds for some research expenses, and enrollment in the Stanford University Postdoctoral Scholar Benefits Program, which includes medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance, and retirement savings options. Applicant Requirements
The ideal candidate will be interested in an academic research career conducting independent research related to improving maternal health and health equity with particular interest in quality improvement, community engagement, and/or population health. The ideal candidate will have:
• A high level of motivation to achieve equitable maternal and perinatal health
• Experience or interest in doing community-driven, interdisciplinary research
• Strong training in quantitative or qualitative research methods (e.g., causal inference methods, Bayesian methods, reflexivity, constructivist grounded theory, mixed methods, or implementation science)
• Experience with quantitative or qualitative data management and analyses using statistical software (eg, SAS, R, NVivo)
• Excellence in communicating research findings, both in writing and via presentations
• Experience or interest in collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders and colleagues (e.g., community-based partners, project management staff, research directors, undergraduate research assistants)
• Fluency in English
NOTE: Applicants need not have completed their doctoral training prior to applying, although training must be completed prior to the start of the fellowship.
