The WRIISC is a tertiary clinical research center located just outside of New York City that specializes in serving Veterans who have military exposure health concerns. WRIISC partners with Health Outcome Military Exposure Program Office to develop education and other initiatives to improve care for Veterans with military exposures across the VA. The incumbent will work with an interdisciplinary team to evaluate the impact of these initiatives on military exposure care. Evaluation efforts happen as part of research studies and as part of operation efforts.
The major duties of the Data Scientist include, but are not limited to:
1. Independently navigates big data systems to create cleaned and linked datasets that can be used to analyze the Centers initiatives and predictive analytics.
2. Independently analyzes big data and translates the findings into recommendations that will advance the work of the Center, VA and other stakeholders to improve care for military exposures.
3. Evaluates system level changes that influence quality of initiatives and provides recommendations on how to address these findings to Center’s leadership and Center’s national partners.
4. Supports and augments existing research, model development, and education activities being performed by the Center through finding data, interpreting data, and utilizing data, to advance these projects.
5. Participates in the development and implementation of policies and interventions to improve care for military exposure health concerns.
6. Examines data evaluating educational, implementation, and performance improvement tools and methodology to improve and sustain the quality and effectiveness of VHA efforts to improve care for military exposures.
7. Collaborates with research entities to implement program changes based on research findings.
8. Independently works both intra-departmentally and interdepartmentally to facilitate partnerships to create and maintain a big data system and develops, disseminates and analyzes big data driven interventions.
9. Provides leadership in the evaluation and design of clinical and administrative information management systems/programs/reports.
10. Synthesizes data, current trends and concepts to inform the Center’s strategic plan.
11. Communicates progress and findings of work including presenting at national conferences and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
Qualifications:
-U.S. Citizenship
-PhD in appropriate field
-Experience with Big Data
-Ability to work with diverse groups
