Dr. Martins is an Associate Professor of Epidemiology in the Department of Epidemiology, Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. Dr. Martins is the co-director of the NIDA-funded T32 Substance Use Disorders Epidemiology Training Program at Columbia and the Course Director of Principles of Epidemiology. Dr. Martins’s current research focuses on consequences of medical marijuana laws in the U.S. (1R01 DA037866), gambling and impulsive behaviors among Puerto Rican young adults in the U.S. and Puerto Rico (1R01 HD060072), and exposure to urban violence and adolescent substance use and psychopathology in Latin America (Chile and Brazil). Dr. Martins collaborates extensively in several other projects focusing on psychiatric and substance abuse epidemiology research in children, adolescent and adults in Brazil. Dr. Martins has published more than 110 papers in the area of substance abuse epidemiology.
