Carol Burns is an Epidemiologist in the Health Services organization of The Dow Chemical Company. She has been at Dow since 1995. Carol Burns has a Master of Public Health from Tulane University and a Ph.D. degree in epidemiology from the University of Michigan. Carol serves on several working groups examining health effects from occupational exposures. These include trade associations such as the European Crop Protection Association, the American Chemistry Council and CropLife America. Her primary research interests are in the putative health effects associated with pesticides and how exposures to them are defined. She is passionate about communicating the role of epidemiology in risk assessment to fellow coworkers, community members and government regulators. Also active in the epidemiology community, she served as the newsletter editor of the American College of Epidemiology for many years and currently chairs the ACE Career and Mentoring committee. She is also a member of the Policy Committee of the Michigan Public Health Association.
