Amy Millen, PhD, is an Associate Professor and Graduate Director of the MS and PhD programs in the Department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health in the School of Public Health and Health Professions at the University at Buffalo. She has a BS in biology from Bucknell University and a PhD in nutritional sciences, with an emphasis in population health, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her primary training is in the field of nutritional epidemiology. She received post-doctoral training at the National Cancer Institute and at the University at Buffalo. Dr. Millen has worked on a number of diverse research projects that have focused on the role of nutrition in chronic diseases of aging. Many of her publications have focused on the role of nutrition in eye disease (e.g., diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration), periodontal disease, and cancer. Her areas of expertise include vitamin D and dietary patterns, and recently she has begun to study dietary intake and the microbiome within the context of periodontal disease and age-related macular degeneration. She has extensive experience with dietary assessment methods and analyzing diet and disease relationships in varied, large population datasets.
