Hello, fellow SER-SPC Members! I am running for re-election to the SER Student and Postdoctoral Committee Executive Board’s Internal Affairs Chair. I have served as the SER-SPC’s Internal Affairs chair for the last year (2014-2015) and previously served as the Membership and Nominations Chair (2011-2012) and Co-Chair (2010-2011).
I received my MSPH and PhD in Epidemiology from the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health (2013) and then completed a postdoctoral fellowship in HIV prevention research at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Currently, I’m an ORISE Fellow with the Health Resources and Services Administration HIV/AIDS Bureau. My research focuses on evaluating domestic HIV prevention and care programs, including HIV testing in clinical settings and HIV care delivery through the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program.
As an experienced SER-SPC Executive Board member, I am intimately familiar with the responsibilities and duties of serving on the SER-SPC Executive Board. In the role of Internal Affairs Chair this past year, I recorded and timely disseminated all SER-SPC Executive Board meeting minutes, and maintained the SER-SPC annual budget. Based on my financial record keeping and input, the SER-SPC increased the number of SER-SPC scholarships to attend the 2015 annual meeting, while ensuring the continued financial stability of SER-SPC for future years. In addition, I contributed to SER-SPC’s social media presence through our Twitter account and “thought questions” for discussion on Facebook and LinkedIn. If re-elected as Internal Affairs Chair, I would continue to prioritize SER-SPC scholarships to maximize attendance at the 2016 World Congress of Epidemiology. I would also strengthen communication between members and engagement in SER-SPC activities at the 2016 World Congress and throughout the year. Thank you for your consideration.
