12:00pm EDT – Critical Topics in COVID-19 Epidemiology
We have all been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, and as epidemiologists, this disease, prevention efforts, and downstream effects of social distancing policies prompt us to assess the pandemic and its effects as researchers. Broadly, we are interested in understanding risk factors for Covid-19 infection and severity, outbreak projections and predictions, prevention or mitigation strategies (pharmaceuticals and policies) and their impact, and public health communication strategies for outbreaks of this magnitude. During this discussion, four expert panelists will respond to questions on these topics and brainstorm new directions for research, with additional time to respond to audience questions.

12:00pm EDT – SER Wikithon
This afternoon session (12p-4p EDT) will improve and create Wikipedia entries related to epidemiology! We will start with a presentation to introduce Wikipedia editing and source referencing, share tips for writing, and assign participants to our list of target entries. Because we are working virtually, we will start with a Zoom call, share resources through Google Drive, and stay connected through Gitter (online chat). Our target entries are primarily overlooked epidemiologists, medical researchers, and public health practitioners, and participants are encouraged to share ideas for more entries. Participants can work for the afternoon as much as they are able, and we will have a final Zoom call at the end to share our progress.
2:00pm EDT – Take a Break with the Diversity and Inclusion Committee to Reflect on Anti-Blackness Racism and How We Can Counter It
This will be an open session with the SER Diversity and Inclusion Committee to listen, talk, support one another, and be heard as members of the SER community in the light of recent events. It will be a forum for discussing actionable ideas for countering anti-blackness racism in our lives, research, teaching and professional society.
