Susan Marshall Mason is a social epidemiologist and an Assistant Professor in the Division of Epidemiology and Community Health at the University of Minnesota. Her work investigates the impacts of neighborhood and family social environments on the health of women and children. She is particularly interested in the ways that adverse childhood experiences and other stressors shape the health and health behaviors of women during young adulthood and pregnancy. The goal of her research is to support the health of women and children by finding ways to foster resilience to adversity at the community, family, and individual level. Dr. Mason is currently funded by a Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health career development award to investigate potential psychological and behavioral reasons for observed links between childhood maltreatment and subsequent heightened obesity risk in young women.
