SPC President Message

Hi All! Sharia Ahmed here, your new SPC President. If you’ve been following along at home, you’ll know that that I have taken over from John Pamplin II. He has done a fantastic job of leading the SPC this past year, and has left some giant shoes to fill. I also want to introduce you all to our new SPC Chairs: Estela Blanco is joining Andreas Teferra as our Education Co-Chairs; Domonique Reed is joining as our Diversity and Inclusion Chair; Ruby Barnard-Mayers is joining Ginna Doss as our Media Co-Chairs; and Joëlle Atere-Roberts is joining Rachael Ross as our Program Co-Chairs. Last but not least, Claire Adam is continuing as our Internal Affairs Chair, and Nedghie Adrien is now our new President-Elect. A hearty welcome to all our new and returning SPC Chairs! I look forward to (continuing) to work with all of you in the coming year.

To students, postdocs, and trainees new to epidemiology or SER, I want to say that the SPC is here for you. We want to help all of you become the most successful epidemiologists possible, however you define that. All of us SPC officers have found SER to be an invaluable community in our professional and often personal development. We volunteer with the SPC throughout the year in order to help “pay it forward,” and hope you find the same growth and community in SER that we have.

If you have an idea for events or resources you want to see from the SPC, please REACH OUT. We put a LOT of effort into trying to design programming that would serve all of you, but we’re just a few people with a few perspectives. If you have a great idea that would benefit other students and postdocs, we’d love to make it happen. Let us know how we can better serve you.

I look forward to working with all of you. Here’s to a happy, healthy, and productive year.

Sharia M Ahmed
SPC President
