Public outreach/pandemic school planning/anti-racism/black women
Dr. Chappel has not only worked to translate the epidemiology of the pandemic to a broad audience on Twitter and mass media, including advocating for a nuanced understanding of the research on covid in schools, she has also directly engaged with school districts to help them develop safety plans. Her social media presence is centered on anti-racisism and anti-oppression, and she often uses her personal experiences with racism and it’s intersection with sexism to help others understand the horrible toll of racism on the lives and health of Black women. On top of all this, she has been working in applied public health full-time while also caring for her three daughters who are in zoom school for the year. She is an example of the best of epidemiology.

@Epi_D_Nique and I collaborated to provide a user-friendly review of the CDC’s study on #Covid_19 spread in elementary #schools in one Georgia district. This study is important because of its focus on young children and community spread. Happy?reading! https://t.co/jdROASkBYh
