SPC President’s Message

Hope everyone’s spring is off to a fantastic start.

Please consider renewing your SER membership if you haven’t yet already. We strive to keep the membership rate as low as possible. Students and post-docs qualify for a discounted membership rate of $35 (without journal access).

Meeting registration is now open for the 2019 SER Annual Meeting, to be held in Minneapolis on June 18-21. Make sure to register here by May 13 to receive the discounted rate.

The SPC will again be sponsoring events designed to help your professional growth at the annual meeting, including Speed Mentor Networking, Breakfast with The Experts, Who Wants to be an Epidemiologist, and SPC Career Panel. Of note, the former two SPC events require registration, which will be open on April 15. Please explore more information on the SPC events here! I also encourage you to meet other early career epidemiologists, through our SPC business meeting from 5:30-6:30pm on Wednesday, June 19.

We also have a series of pre-meeting workshops taught by leading experts. These sessions are an inexpensive way to increase your knowledge base on topics ranging from cutting-edge methods, programming in R, statistical graphics and visualization, and soft skills for job hunting. A full list of the workshops can be found here, which you can register for through the Conference Registration link.

It’s almost time to elect the 2019-2020 SPC officers. Please watch out for an email with the link to voting. You must be a SER-SPC member to vote and must log onto the SER website to cast your ballot. The election period will run from April 1 – May 10th.

As always, please feel free to contact us with your suggestions and ideas regarding the SER-SPC.
