The 2018 Fall SERdigital conference is coming, to be held on November 14 from 12-1:30pm EST. Registration (FREE) is available on the website: https://epiresearch.org/serlibrary/serdigital/ and you can encourage your department to hold a “viewing party”. In this SERdigital, we will be featuring Drs. Stephen Mooney (UW) and Nicholas Tatonetti (Columbia) sharing their perspectives about big data, machine learning, and opportunities and challenges for Epidemiology. We will also have three live oral presentations selected from submitted abstracts by Mengting Xu (U of Montreal), Julie Petersen (BU), and Justin Rodgers (Northeastern). Among the top scored abstracts, another eight students will pre-record their 8-10 minute presentations, which will be made available on the SER website before the SERdigital date.
As speaking of abstracts, the general abstract submission for SER 2019 in Minneapolis will be open from November 12, 2018 to January 14, 2019 and latebreaker abstracts can be submitted from February 4 to March 4, 2019. You can find more details regarding abstract categories and the late breaking abstract policy on the website: https://epiresearch.org/annual-meeting/2019-meeting/abstract-submission/.
As we brainstorm plans for student and post-doc programs that we will be offering at the Minneapolis meeting and beyond, we cannot value your input enough. Shortly after the SERdigital, we will be sending out our SPC Fall Survey. This is a great opportunity to suggest topics, workshops, and speakers that would enrich our members’ experience at the annual meeting and other SPC activities throughout the year – not to mention an opportunity to win a $25 Amazon gift card!
Last but not least, we are soliciting T-Shirt designs for the 2019 SER Fun Run in Minneapolis and the submission portal will be open through January 31, 2019: https://epiresearch.org/annual-meeting/2019-meeting/sersper-fun-run/. The artist of the winning design will receive complimentary meeting registration to attend SER’s 2019 Annual Meeting!
As always, please feel free to contact us with your suggestions and ideas regarding the SER-SPC.
