SER President’s Message

Wendy Nembhard

I can’t believe that fall is here – I don’t know about you, but the summer really flew by. Students are back in school (or about to return) and pumpkins and holiday decorations fill the store shelves. I’m not quite ready for the holidays. Feels like the annual meeting was just yesterday. The 2025 annual meeting was record setting with more than 1,600 registered attendees in 18 in-person workshops and 8 virtual workshops, 23 symposia, 32 oral abstract sessions, and 867 poster presentations! Yes, you read that number correctly – 1,600! Even with last minute cancellations, budget constraints, grant terminations and all the many challenges we faced in the first half of the year, we still had record attendance at the meeting. Based on the feedback we have received, the annual meeting was a huge success. Many thanks to the society members for supporting the meeting, the SER board and Sue Bevan and her team. Read More

SERmember Insights

Yenisei Ramirez

“I first got curious about epidemiology during my doctoral program—even though it wasn’t specifically focused on that area. As I started moving away from the usual trends in nutrition research, which often focus on individual-level factors, I became more interested in bigger-picture questions, like how the food environment shapes people’s choices…” Read More.

SERplaylist – Methods for Policy Evaluation

“Policies are increasingly recognized as key structural determinants of health and health inequities. Studies evaluating the health effects of policies and programs by comparing jurisdictions that have vs. have not implemented them often face particular challenges. First, there is likely to be confounding that is difficult to capture using measured covariates…”

SERmember Publications

Members of the Society for Epidemiologic Research (SER) are active in many circles and we would love to highlight the work that everyone is doing! We invite members (and especially student and post-doctoral members) to provide information about recent media reports covering their work or quoting them, publications or major events (awards, dissertation defense announcements) for the @societyforepi twitter account to promote and share.

Educational Resources

Universities around the world have moved to online delivery of education in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the wake of this change, courses, course content, e-journal clubs, and other material and events are becoming more readily share-able and available to students and practitioners regardless of geographic location. SER would like to serve as a resource page for students, faculty and practitioners to share and access FREE educational content, both live lectures and recorded or printed material.
