SER President Message
I hope that you are enjoying the official arrival of fall with its spectacular colors and (pumpkin) spices. I also want to acknowledge our colleagues for whom the fall has been more challenging, particularly those impacted by hurricanes Helene and Milton. You are in our thoughts during this difficult time.
Planning for the upcoming mid-year and annual meetings is in full swing and the Board and I could not be more excited! We asked for your “expertise, ideas and research” and you delivered by submitting a record number of proposals for pre-conference workshops, breakfast and lunchtime sessions, symposia, and professional development sessions. We are confident that both meetings will offer a quality assortment of programming for all attendees.
Now we turn to you again, this time inviting you to share your research expertise and time. The Mid-Year Meeting – which is entirely virtual – is scheduled for February 10-14, 2025. The call for abstracts for presentation during the Mid-Year meeting will close on Friday November 15th at 10:00am EST with notifications sent out by January 8, 2025. Abstract submissions for presentation during the Annual Meeting – scheduled for June 10-13, 2025 in Boston, MA – will open on Monday November 18, 2024, closing on January 10, 2025 at 10:00am EST. In addition, consider volunteering to review abstracts. You may indicate your interest and area(s) of expertise via the Abstract Submission page on the SER website.
We are also accepting applications for the Course Development and Revision Workshop and the Student Dissertation Workshop. Please help us reach out to those faculty and students in both “traditional” and “non-traditional” epidemiology programs who may benefit from these opportunities. Applications are due February 5, 2025.
Each year SER recognizes some of the many “superstars” that make up our Society through ten (10) awards presented at the annual meeting. These awards range from student and postdoc paper prizes to mid-career and lifetime achievement in epidemiology. Please take the time to learn more about the specific awards, and nominate the epidemiology superstar(s) in your life. In addition, there are a number of travel awards available to those in need of assistance to attend the annual meeting. All award details and submission requirements can be found on the Awards page of the SER website. Submissions are due on January 10, 2025.
Finally, and most importantly – don’t forget to renew your SER membership! Membership benefits include free registration to the Mid-Year meeting, reduced registration to the Annual meeting, and access to SER resources (e.g., SERlibrary, Mentoring). Invite your non-SER colleagues to consider joining.
Thank you in advance for helping to make SER 2025 the best ever (i.e., lit). I wish you all a happy holiday season and prosperous 2025.
