This occasional podcast from SER takes on big topics in epidemiology that the general public has an interest in with a panel discussing the latest health related research with experts in the field. Examples have included the effects of plastics, the importance of the flu vaccine, herd immunity and even what is epidemiology. Matt Fox hosts but the podcast is put together and led by SER members.

A bi-weekly podcast about life in academia that asks whether “being a woman in academia is a dream, game, or scam.” This highly engaging podcast is a must for everyone in academia, not just women. Hosts Whitney Robinson and Sarah Birken from the University of North Carolina take on issues in academia that include career trajectories, finances and family life and include lots of really interesting and insightful guests.

An bi-weekly podcast in which three epidemiologists/medical researchers engage in a journal club discussion of a paper that was highly reported in the lay press to determine if the results stand up to the claims. Also looks at the lighter side of science and academia. Great for those learning to critique papers and for keeping up on big results in epidemiology (also a shameless plug for my own podcast). Matt Fox, Chris Gill and Don Thea from Boston University host.

Perhaps the first breakout epidemiology podcast, this hit show is all about infectious diseases. The highly engaging Erins (Erin Welsh and Erin Allmann Updyke) take on a different infectious diseases each week and give you all the details from the pathology to the epidemiology to the history to the social consequences and they have fun doing it. This is a great topic specific podcast that has the appeal for a general audience as well and it will gross you out.

A bi-weekly podcast from Roger Peng of Johns Hopkins and Elizabeth Matsui of the University of Texas at Austin take on all the issue of life in academia from sample size calculations to conference travel to time management to how to deal with the scores you just got on your latest grant. This is a great podcast for learning more about life in academia and how to manage the issues that inevitably come up.

A bi-weekly podcast from Simine Vazier (University of California, Davis), Sanjay Srivastava (University of Oregon) and Alexa Tullett (University of Alabama) that is about doing science. Even though this podcast is by three psychologists, the issues that they discuss are very relevant to epidemiology. The hosts talk about topics as diverse as the replicability crisis (a big theme for them), diversity in academia and how to make friends in the academic world.

A bi-weekly podcast from Dan Quintana of the University of Oslo and James Heathers of Northeastern University, this is another podcast that is hosted by non-epidemiologists that has so much relevance to epidemiologists. The podcast is largely about how to do good science and they often have guests who are highly knowledgeable on aspects of good science. Features lots of rants (in a good way).
