Master’s-Level Epidemiologist
Description
The Marshfield Clinic Research Institute (MCRI) is seeking a masters-level epidemiologist to support research with a major focus on the Vaccine Safety Datalink (VSD), a CDC-funded research network (www.cdc.gov/vaccinesafety/ensuringsafety/monitoring/vsd/index.html). The VSD project is a collaborative effort between CDC’s Immunization Safety Office and thirteen health care research organizations. The VSD utilizes linked electronic health records to conduct observational studies of vaccine safety in different settings and populations, including near-real time safety monitoring for selected vaccines following licensure. Over 13 million individuals are represented in the VSD population each year. MCRI has participated in VSD for more than two decades, and the current contract will continue into 2027 when competitive renewal is anticipated.
The epidemiologist will function as a project manager, research collaborator, and key contact for VSD based research. Major responsibilities will include: a) coordination of research studies, b) data management and analytic support, c) assistance with study design, protocol development, grant writing and d) ensuring compliance with IRB and privacy rules. The epidemiologist will assist with manuscript writing and data analysis using SAS. Opportunities will be available to coauthor manuscripts and present research results at national meetings. The epidemiologist will interact frequently with the VSD principal investigators at MCRI, CDC investigators, and collaborators at other VSD sites.
The Marshfield VSD study team is housed in the Center for Clinical Epidemiology & Population Health (CCEPH). The study team includes a collaborative group of MD and PhD researchers, biostatisticians, programmers, and research coordinators. Although this position relates primarily to work for VSD, additional opportunities may be available to work on other federally-funded and/or industry-sponsored vaccine research led by investigators in CCEPH. We offer a flexible hybrid work environment with a combination of remote and onsite presence. This position will be supervised by the CCEPH Director.
Qualifications
• MPH, MSPH, MS, or equivalent degree in epidemiology or related field is required.
• Strong analytic skills with training in statistics and use of statistical software are required. (SAS or equivalent is preferred).
• Work experience in epidemiology research or public health practice is required; this may include work experience during a training program. Prior experience in vaccine-related research is desirable.
• Experience working on collaborative research teams is preferred.
• Publications are desirable.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
• Self-directed individual who is able to problem solve and work independently to coordinate VSD program activities.
