Mabel is a Social and Infectious Diseases Epidemiologist. She was trained as a physician in Colombia, received her PhD in Epidemiology from McGill University, and currently, is a Black Postdoctoral Fellow at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto. Read more
She returned to academia after several years of “field” work as infectious disease epidemiologist to work in the intersection of health inequalities, spatial analysis and the development and application of methods to control for measurement error and underreporting in the use of surveillance data. Her current research includes studying socioeconomic and ethnic disparities on infectious diseases (e.g., arboviruses, COVID-19, etc.), immigration, and police fatal encounters.
