Precious Esie Columbia University

Precious Esie is an Epidemiology PhD student at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. She is interested in studying the ways in which social structures influence health and health inequities, with a focus on mental health. Her dissertation work focuses on understanding how the social construction of race may contribute to variation in the prevalence of depression among Black Americans, disaggregating this group along understudied social statuses of ethnicity and immigrant generation. Prior to Mailman, she earned her MPH in Epidemiology from Emory University and her BS in Mathematics from Loyola University New Orleans.
