David Celentano

Dr. David Celentano is a professor of medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He holds joint appointments in international health; health, behavior and society; and health policy and management at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. His research focuses on behavioral and social epidemiology.

Dr. Celentano is the Charles Armstrong Chair of Epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

His team is currently focusing on interventions to influence the association between opiate use, methamphetamine use and other drugs on HIV through NIH-supported studies in Thailand.

Dr. Celentano received his undergraduate degree in psychology from Johns Hopkins University. He earned his Master of Health Science (M.H.S.) degree in mental hygiene and Doctor of Science (Sc.D.) degree in behavioral sciences from the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health (now the Bloomberg School of Public Health). He joined the Johns Hopkins faculty in 1978.

In 2006, Dr. Celentano received an honorary Ph.D. in health sciences from Chiang Mai University in Thailand, which was presented by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
