Dr. Russell Kirby is a perinatal and pediatric epidemiologist with extensive experience in birth defects and developmental disabilities surveillance and epidemiology.  Dr. Kirby’s work is primarily population-based, and includes research aimed at improving surveillance methods, population-based analyses to support programmatic activities in maternal and child health, population health informatics, and applications of geographical information systems and spatial analysis in public health.  Dr. Kirby has worked in public health at the state level, as a professor in two medical schools, and since 2002 as a professor of maternal and child health at the University of Alabama-Birmingham and from 2008 at the University of South Florida.  Dr. Kirby was named distinguished university professor at USF in 2014.
